The winning entry of a competition in 2015, the project is defined by its single monolithic volume wrapped in a graphically patterned facade. Launched in 1999, the publication was the first web magazine to focus on industrial design, architecture, and art internationally. Designboom (stylized as designboom) is a daily web magazine headquartered in Milan and covering the fields of industrial design, architecture, and art internationally. Another feature dedicated to the Aptera UAE Union Anniversary Edition that suits the weather conditions in the country comes through Solar Chill, a technology that uses solar power to keep the car’s cabin cool all the time and regardless of outdoor temperatures. Tegel is set to make an appearance as well, which is Love Hultén’s sound sculpture based on the biodata derived from plants. Plants are also the heart of Love Hultén’s Desert Song sound machine, presented by designboom at Sónar+D.

The visually striking appearance resembles a cross-section of buried plastic waste, featuring pop patterns and textures created by the resin. By incorporating materials’ color patterns that vary by collection site and season, the design suggests wider decorative applications beyond its primary function. Additionally, the piece is designed with a simple structure for easy disposal and uses VOC-free, water-based acrylic resin as a binding agent, ensuring environmental consciousness throughout the production process. On the lower floors, visitors will find two technologically advanced theaters, each capable of seating 299 people. There’s also a library and learning area designed in a horseshoe shape, featuring expansive windows overlooking the park. Additionally, a museum shop, a cafe, and a sizable 10,000-square-foot gallery round out the offerings on the lower floors.

A selection of Zeng’s smaller format oil paintings and works on paper are respectively featured in and around Ando’s temporary walls. Against the backdrop of the Misericordia’s majestic spaces—steeped in history and richly decorated with frescoes—Zeng’s project grounds his audience in the visceral experience of art. The Tadao Ando-designed exhibition focuses on Zeng Fanzhi’s ambitious practice of redefining the abstract through figurative representation and vice versa. The artist’s new oil paintings emerge from decades of research in color theory, drawing on and challenging Impressionism and Pointillism, whereby images materialize only through the careful placement of individual color marks.

‘Each new collection is a way to tell a new story, to make reference to our heritage,’ Benoit Pierre Emery, creative director of La Table Hermès, tells designboom. Upon entering the ground floor of the Scuola Grande, visitors are introduced to the classical proportions of the 16th-century building, bracketed by two sizeable multi-panel oil paintings, one alluding to Buddhist iconography, the other Christian. Tadao Ando’s design is a progression of walls with a series of increasingly large apertures, each of which is self-contained yet connected with the others. These openings connect two larger works, one at each end of the space as on the ground floor, but, in this case, the two paintings are not strictly representational but instead suggest abstractions of light and water.

Feifei song (b. in beijing, china) has since 2010 translated designboom’s articles into the chinese language. At Milan Design Week 2024, Samsung Design debuted its newest exhibition, Newfound Equilibrium, epitomizing its dedication to reshaping the dynamic between humans and technology. This showcase blurred the lines separating the two entities, inviting visitors to envision a harmonious future where innovation seamlessly integrates with our lives. Against the backdrop of Le Cavallerizze, Milan, Samsung Design presented more than just an exhibition—it’s a profound exploration of the delicate balance between people and the digital.

Aptera Motors says that its 53 Union Edition vehicles are planned to be delivered directly to the United Arab Emirates in 2026. There are only 53 units to be produced as part of the celebration of the country’s formation on December 2, 1971. Each vehicle then represents a year of unity among the seven emirates, and the three-wheeled solar power car becomes a medium of homage to the UAE’s history. Before the announcement of entering the UAE market, Aptera Motors showcased its first production body en route to its headquarters in Carlsbad, California. Spanish architecture studio Selgascano takes to the hills of northeast Los Angeles to complete a vibrant residence titled La Canaria. The team, together with LA- and Madrid-based architect Diego Cano, perches the home along a steep hillside in the residential neighborhood of Mount Washington, fronting it with a playful facade in warm, colorful hues.

Both Maggie Miracle, CEO of The Star LLC, and architect Norman Foster, founder of Foster + Partners, emphasize the project’s focus on fostering a vibrant creative community in Hollywood. ‘The Star’ is designed to blend indoor and outdoor workspaces, offering collaborative areas alongside spaces for quiet contemplation and innovation. Foster describes the project as a ‘true reflection of the workplace of the future,’ nurturing creativity and collaboration through its unique design.

Matthieu Blazy and Bottega Veneta partnered with Cassina and Fondation Le Corbusier for the indoor installation, adding the architect and designer’s Cabanon stools, which dominated most of the exhibition space. Each piece was meticulously enveloped in Bottega Veneta’s Intreccio foulard technique, meticulously hand-woven at the House’s artisanal atelier in Montebello, near Vicenza. Inside the Issey Miyake boutique, art collective We Make Carpets created a series of surface installations. Visitors were greeted to the boutique with over 50,000 colored skewers and pins stuck into the foam base, highlighting both brands’s focus on meticulous material research and techniques. There’s going to be three more of these colored-skewer pieces in the same size, so the final product will contain around 50,000 skewers. I don’t know how much there is in here now, but these will be about this quantity soon,’ Bob Waardenburg, one third of the collective, tells designboom.
